How to interpret S&P 500 positioning

What the contract represents

E-mini S&P 500 futures are a liquid benchmark for large-cap US equity-index exposure.

Categories traders monitor

Leveraged Funds often show tactical index positioning, while Asset Managers can use futures for portfolio equitization and hedging.

Interpretation considerations

Contract choice matters: this registry intentionally follows the reviewed E-mini contract rather than mixing micro or alternate contracts.

Important limitations

COT excludes cash equities and options and cannot identify whether futures offset another portfolio exposure.
